    Stems and branches numerous, the latter slender and sub-pendulous; inflorescence 1 to 3 from each leaf axil or from the axils of fallen leaves divaricately spreading, rather lax and curved the lateral spikes developing later, bright red; corolla segments strongly reflexed; filaments erect, whitish; anthers introrse, erect; pale yellow; style whitish with a small dark red stigma; flowers divaricately spreading all around the spike» deciduous; fruits yellowish white and soft when mature, ⅓ inch long, fusiform, with a stall reddish rim, the juicy whitish meat surround the nutlet quite sweet; leaves coriaceous, pale green on both sides.
