PINE NUT MOUNTAINS: Silver Saddle Ranch on east slope of Prison Hill, Carson Valley
watershed. Locally abundant, thousands of plants. Sandy granitic alluvial soil sloping 5°NE,
with Artemisia tridentata, Purshia tridentata, Prunus andersonii, Ephedra viridis,
Greeneocharis circumscissa, Camissonia contorta, Mentzelia albicaulis, Gilia modocensis,
Descurainia pinnata, Erodium cicutarium, Sisymbrium altissimum, Erythranthe suksdorfii,
Diplacus, Calyptridium roseum, Loeflingia squarrosa artemisiarum, Phacelia bicolor bicolor,
Festuca octoflora hirtella, etc. Annuals, corollas deep yellow with blood red spot and
markings.
