JUGLANDACEAE Juglans nigra L
Tree 10 m. tall, 35 cm. in diameter; bark dark, closely
furrowed. Fruit fallen to ground, mature, still with
green husk tightly adhering to the nut, beginning to
turn dark brown or black.
In fencerow at edge of cultivated field and formerly
pastured S-facing slope. Saplings of this species now
appearing abundantly in fencerow and old pasture since
grazing stopped ca. 10 years ago. With Ulmus rubra,
U. americana, Celtis occidentalis, Vitis_ riparia, Quercus
alba, Pyrus ioensis.	— -
