The New York Botanical Garden Cultivated Plants of U.S.A. Fagaceae Quercus macrocarpa Michx. New York State, Bronx Co., Bronx, New York Botanical Garden, near the Harding Lab. 40°5r54”N, 73°52’47”W. 40.86548°N, 73.880356°W. alt. 26 m. “058928” Tree 20 m. tall, 1 m. in I diameter, blown over during strong winds. Same tree collected on 30 June 2009, as D. Atha 7663 (NY). Voucher for wood specimen, MADw. Very few acorns produced anywhere in the crown. The number of twigs with male inflorescences apparently in or near anthesis was just as large. The amount of fringing on the acorn cup is variable even though all taken from the same tree; some cups with essentially no fringing. The petioles are distinctly yellow. Some characters indicate this may be a hybrid with Q. alba L. Coll.: M. Nee 57175 25 July 2010 04348804
