Papua New Guinea. Eastern Highlands Province: Mt.
Gahavisuka, Provincial Park 11km outside of Goroka. Reached by a
road that turns off of the Highlands Highway on the Mt. Hagen (W)
side. Elevation 2,450m. Accompanied by guide Jason. 145° 30’ E,
6° 03’ S.
Tree ~6m, very common. Leaves plicate, glabrous, alternate, sprially
arranged, annulate stipule scars. Large stipules. Fruit, syconium,
yellow with rounded bracts. In cross section of syconium there
appears to be no empty space and the arrangement of the flowers
looks like the outline of a bat. Flowers brown. White latex
throughout. Local name Kapiak.
