  • Description

    Much spreading trees; stem short, 5 feet in diameter, but soon divided into large main branches; wood white, rather soft, bark thick, reddish except in rather smooth greyish white or mottled outer surface; ultimate branches slender, lax, divaricately branched; leaves sub-membranous, smooth, dark green on the upper surface, paler beneath, nearly flat or only slightly conduplicate on the upper surface; figs along the larger branches, clustered upon 1 to 6 inches long stiff, thick and sparingly branched tubercles; peduncles 1 inch long; syncomium very thick and full of pale white viscid gum or juice; smooth, corrugated towards the umbilicus, streaked with dark apple red and spotted with minute whitish lenticels; rare tree 20 metres high; figs obovoid 1½ inch long by 1 inch thick.
