  • Description

    Strict tree 36 or more feet high; stem round, 1½ or 2 foot thick, branched above the middle, forming an elongated crown, wood moderately hard, whitish with yellow streaks or patches toward the center, odorless and with a slight bitter taste; bark whitish mottled, smooth on only thinly checked longitudinally, containing latex; branches loosely spreading; the twigs ½ inch thick, slender, with suberect tips; leaves varying from a few inches to a foot or more in length, entire lobed or even incised, chartaceous, normally incised the incisions conduplicate on the upper surface, paler green beneath, the strong veins yellowish white; fruits upon 3 to. 5 inches long terete peduncles from the axils of the middle leaves, the peduncles yellowish green and pendulous, as long as the peduncle, one half as thick oblong, the surface irregular, nearly black; "Biou".
