BREADFRUIT OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS T agfay M^ORACEAE Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson) Fosberg Yap Yap Proper Luech Village Fruits elongate (25x17 cm) with stout (10 cm) stalk deeply inserted into high raised neck of swollen, elongated sections. Unusual in its pyriform shape. May be the same as Ragone 287. Spiny with thin, elongated, rounded at top, sections. Profuse bearer with 2-3, occasionally four, fruits per branch. Yellow flesh with 16 cm core. No latex and flesh does not discolor when cut. Leaves moderately dissected with four pairs of close lobes. Some leaves have three lobes on one side, four on the other. Very sturdy, dull, smooth blade with green-yellow veins. No hairs on upper or lower veins. Tree -15 m. Ethnobotany - One of the best fruits, very tasty. Prolific bearer.
