?A c £?i BREADFRUIT OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS Maopo Artocarpus altilis Parkinson (Fosberg) MORACEAE Samoa Savai’i Island Saipipi Village Tavana family compound. 100 m inland from ocean, SE side of fale palagi. Fruits oblong, large (12x17 cm) with short, stout stalk (5.5xl.5 cm). Pale green, smooth with slightly raised center dot. Flesh white; core (2.4x11.2 cm); heavy latex when cut, discolors green. Few full size to almost mature fruits on tree. Leaves almost entire with 1-4 very shallow lobes near tip. Very dark green, glossy, brittle blade with yellow veins. Moderate number of long white hairs on upper veins; underside slighdy rough. Tree has upright growth habit: "10 m, with two trunks branching near base, DBH 32.3 and 33.4 cm.
