« hi^i tree on a wooded ridge at 4000 foot of mount Burebid;
5 i stem terete, at least 2 3/S feet In diameter; wood whitish
on the outside at least, heavy« hard, odorless and tasteless;
bark emoothiah or lenticelled, yellowish gray mottled, red-
dish brown beneath the epidermis; main branches arising
from above the middle, the ultimate ones quit# numerous
and suberect; leaves asoendingly recurved, folded upon the
upper darker green surfaoe, tips strongly recurred; infru-
tesoent spikes 3 to 6 inches long, %soending or ereot,
terminal or from the uppermost leaf axils: acorns 2/2 inch
across, nearly 3/4 lush long $ thickly ovoid, the cup covered
