Sugar 2008 (NCSC) The New York Botanical Garden Cultivated Leguminosae of U.S.A Sophora japonica L, det. M. Nee, 1985 NEW YORK: Bronx Co., Bronx, grounds of the New York Botanical Garden. Tree, 12 m. tall, 50 cm. in diameter; twigs green; foliage still dark green while leaves of native tree species have turned color and about half fallen. Inflorescence branches yellow- green. Fruit abundant, green, nearly translucent, juicy, just within the last week have begun to shrivel and after falling to the ground eagerly devoured by starlings (Sturna vulgaris). Coll.: M.
