Southwestern Mojave Desert, Joshua tree-juniper flats and open woodland. Dominants: Yucca brevifolia, Juniperus californica, Ephedra nevadensis. Common.

Description
shrub, to 0.5 m tall. Small shrub, to 0.5 m. tall. Twigs blunt at tip. Male. Cones golden-yellow, conspicuous from a distance, fully mature, releasing clouds of yellow microspores. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
