    along a wooded beach 1 mile north from the point. in sand gravelly soil.

  • Description

    Burley tree; stem 1 foot thick with 2 minor ones from the same root, 20 feet high, with main branches from below the middle, crooked and ascending; wood very soft, whitish, odorless and tasteless, bark thick, gray and covered with brown lenticells; branches widely spreading, numerously rebranched; branchlets crooked, bendable, suberect and spreading; leaves descending, folded upon the upper slightly deeper green surface, subcoriaceous; inflorescence divaricately spreading, heavy and half succulent, all the stalks pale green; perianth thick, also green except the reddish brown tips, the whole of inner side of the same reddish brown; anthers irregularly clustered about a subglobose head, bright red when fresh but soon turning brownish; pod-like fruits pendant, divaricately spreading; "Balinad." pods when red bright pleasing red:.
