  • Description

    A 60 foot high tree; stem 3½ feet thick; main branches arising a trifle above the middle, ascending, ultimately crookedly rebranched and widely spreading; bark brown, thinly checked gray on the branches, wood whitish hard without odor or taste; twigs quite rigid or bendable, ascending numerous; leaves coriaceous, dull or olive green above, flat or only slightly conduplicate, with recurved tips, ashy gray beneath, numerous; inflorescence erect or usually curved, greenish, the branches 3 inches long, flowers with a sourish odor; infrutescence upon 1 to 5 inches long rather thick stalks erect or ascending; acorns mature, occasionally densely clustered, short ovoid, 1¼ inch across the base, ¾ inch deep: calyx cup shallow especially the rim enclosing the nut, hard, grayish; nut ovoidly flattened, green except the brown apex, otherwise green, half shining; Splendid scars!. "Ulayan".
