  • Description

    stem 2 feet thick, hollow, terete, ascending, branched toward the top mainly; wood soft, white on the outside, roseus toward the middle, light, without odor or taste; bark thick smoothish or scaling in plates, latericius except the epidermis; branches widely spreading, freely rebranched, forming a flattish crown; leaves descending or horizontal, dark green and shiny on the upper nearly flat surface, stramineus to cremeus beneath, thinly coriaceous, the veins nearly melleus; inflorescence erect, solitary or few clustered in the leaf axils, buds terete, 1/2 inch thick, 5 inches long, quite soft in texture, calyx thick, 6, flavovireus, fulvus scurfy on the outside, ultimately recurved and subpersistent; corolla white, early wilting, imbricately twisted, stamens and pistil also white; flowers early falling and sweetly fragrant.
