Gloriosa superba Linnaeus, Spec. Plant., 305, 1753.
Glabrous, herbaceous, vinelike plant. Leaves sessile, 1-3 at a node, elliptical-lanceolate,
ending in a tendril-like, prehensile apex by means of which it clings to a support. Flowers
handsome, nodding, on long axillary pedicels, perianth parts reflexed, crisped, at first
yellow, turning red.
Introduced ornamental (9956). English name, climbing lily.
