Phytogeogr. value: A plant of connection of the
Saharo-Sindian and Irano-Turanian regions.
The distributional area of this species is wide and somewhat
disjunctive. In Palestine it occurs chiefly in the Lower Jordan
Valley. It is the leading plant of Populetum euphraticae, a gallery
forest assocation, nearest the stream. The species is known for its
heteromorphous leaves.
