Description
This strict "flag-staff" Zingerberaceae forms large tussocks; stems 1 to 3' high, less than 1 inch thick towards the base, rather hard, green; leaves sub-membranous, ascending, in alternating distichous rows, deeper green on the upper surface, the sides strongly conduplicate or even folded upon the dorsal side, 3 to 5 inches apart; inflorescence light green, faintly but sweetly fragrant; the ovary and bud corolla deep green; calyx whiteish throughout; corolla on anthesis also pale white: stamens and pistil watery white; the inner surface of the thick bracts at the base of the lower segment reddish;.
