Habitat
in loose soil of steep densely wooded ravines.

Description
Perennial herbs, tufted; leaves gracefully recurved, very unequal in size, plicate, semiglaucous green beneath, the sides rounded making a rounded surface; flowers yellow, in dense heads upon 1/2 to 1 foot long ensiform, brown woolly covered peduncles arising from the base; bracts green with brown soft hairs on the midrib and margins; quite common.
