Sandy plain with relict and active dunes;
open savanna with scrub islands and
savanna wetland.
Rhizomatous, perennial, culms and
rhizomes stout; diam to 6cm; internodes
greenish to purple; nodes waxy-white;
sheaths longer than internodes; blades
ascending-arcuate, flat; inflorescence
to 70cm, white. Cultivated crop.
Abundant on plain surrounding Santa Cruz.
