collected while working the Thirty Mile Fire, which was named after its point of origin, a campfire in Thirty Mile Campground
From Wenatchee, about 110 miles north to Winthrop community. Chenuch River drainage. Eight Mile Camp. T36N
R21E S26(?). Reported GPS of camp helibase was 48°35.562' 120°09.939\ Southern tip of main pasture is helispot.
These collections made within woods and creekside immediately downstream less than 50 yards from pasture, along
the Chewuch River (spelling seems to vary on camp posters and maps).
Several plants on low gravel bar.
Collected in memory of Tom Craven, Jessica Johnson, Karen FitzPatrick, and Devin Weaver, who died fighting the Thirty Mile Fire. Fire
started as an unattended campfire July 9 and blew up unexpectedly July 10 trapping about 15 people who deployed fire shelters. Eight Mile
Ranch (= Eight Mile Camp) is a well known Li. S. Forest Service camp, eight miles up the Chenuch River from the Winthrop Community.
Coll: Philip E. Hyatt, worked this fire as Base Camp Manager and later as Supply Unit Leader, supporting the ground efforts in late July.
