a)	Sunny, arid, SE-facing steep slope of
bare windblown dune sands, gravel, scree
fields, and rock outcrops of decomposing
"granite',’ with bare soil steppe and "desert"
vegetation of Oxytropis (coeruleus?),
Festuca, Carex monosperma, Phlo j odicarpus
popovii, Alyssum obovaturn, Chamaerhodos
grandiflora, Ephedra, Scrophularia incisa,
Thymus serpyllum, Orostachys spinosa,
Polygonatum officinale^ Rhaponticum uniflorum.
b)	Open, sandy Pinus sylvestris forest on
top of dune and scree slopes, with dense
Rhododendron dahuricum, Alnus fruticosa,
Lilium martagon, Cotoneaster lucidus,
Linnaea borealis, Sorbus sibiricus under-
story, 10-15 m above Lake Baikal at
"Academic Bay."
