Sp- pi. p. 122.
Phytogeogr. value: A species of connection of the
Eurosibirian-Boreoamerican, Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian
regions.
As far as we have observed this species in the East-Me-
diter. countries, it seems to be here of lesser phytosociological
importance than in the Eurosib-Boreoam. region. In Palestine a
rare plant limited in Cisjordania almost exclusively to the hig-
her parts of the Med. mountain range. In Mediterranean
Transjordania with its more continental conditions it seems to
be somewhat more common. In Palestine as in Europe it often
is of a ruderal character. If not disturbed by man, L. perenne
generally forms nearly pure stands by itself.
