112. Bromus tectorum L.
Sp. PI. ed. 1 (1753), p. 77.
Phytogeogr. value: A plant of connection of the
Mediterranean, Irano-Turanian and Saharo-Sindian regions, penet-
rating into the Eurosibirian-boreoamerican region.
The ecological requirements of this species seem to approach
those of the Irano-Turanian region more than those of the other
two regions of its area. It seems to have decided steppe
affinities. Despite its wide distribution in the Mediter. countries
B. tectorum does not seem to be a true component of the
Mediter. Maqui or Garigue. It is widely distributed througout
Cis- and Transjordania, both in the Mediter. and their steppico-
desert parts. But it seems to be more common and more sociable
in the Irano-Turanian territory of Transjordania.	A. Eig.
