Paspalum vaginatum Swartz, Prodr. Veg. Ind. Occ., 21,1788. Low creeping grass with long horizontal rhizomes. Flowering branches tufted, leafy, up to 60 or more cm. tall. Leaves up to IS cm. long, conspicuously 2-ranked. Racemes mostly 2, erect to spreading, mostly about 5 cm. long. Spikelets in two rows, solitary, ovate-lanceolate.
