Cultivated In Hugh H. Iltis* garden, 2784 Mar-
shall Pkwy.* Univ. of Wisconsin Arboretum,
Madison, Wisconsin, U.S.A. Grown from roots
taken in the field and brought back live.
Plants from dense but grazed Populus-Betula
grove near bottom of small valley;very common
¿wsemi-shade. Caudex to 50 cm long, 5 cm diam.
a)J	Secondary Betula pendula—Pinus sylvestris
woods, with Paeonia anomala, Lonicera ta -
tarica.
b)	Salix thickets on stream (Hypericum
hirsutum, Poa remota, Festuca gigantea,
Elymus canin um),
c)	Grazed tall forb meadows on edge of
woods, with Senecio nemorensis, Delphinium
elatum.
d)	Edge ofj and in stream (Nardosmia laevi-
gata, Carex gracilis, Juncus bufonius,
£ * gerardii).
Site of former settlement of Pereleshino
on Kinterep River, 13 km ENE from Alexandrova
and 4 km WSW from Yegor*evsk, 122 km ESE of
Novosibirsk, 27 km NE of Maslyanino.
