The New York Botanical Garden Cultivated Plants of U.S. A. Fagaceae Fagus sylvatica L. “Rohanii” New York State, Bronx Co., Bronx, New York Botanical Garden, on lawn between Museum Building and the Kennedy entrance. 40°51’54”N, 73°52’51”W. alt. 31 m. “298/89A t PT L 298/89 Weston Nurseries Purple-leaved European Beech” Tree 40 cm. in diameter; bark smooth, gray, beginning to branch at 1 m. above ground level. Major veins purplish above and below; from a distance the upper part of the tree does have a purplish tinge. Many husks fallen to the ground, the husks reddish brown, the fruit itself a shiny reddish brown. Coll.: M. Nee 58146 14 Sept. 2011 04268357
