  • Habitat

    Periodically inundated marl wet prairie (currently dry) near dirt road; 'prairie islands' in a matrix of pinus elliottii and Sabal palmetto savanna, Taxodium distichum domes and swamps, and strand swamps and sloughs. Grasses to 50.8 cm tall, very thick.With Aristida beyrichiana, Asclepias verticillata, Cladium jamaicense, Eriocaulon spp., Eryngium yuccifoliiuum, Heliotropium polyphyllum, Muhlenbergia capillaris, Pinguicula lutea, Pinguicula pumila, Rhynchospora spp., Sisyrinchium, and Serenoa repens.

  • Description

    Flowers white. Sepals lateral, slightly upswept. Dorsal sepal and petals just slightly reflexed at tips. Younger flowers with lime-green labellum; older, lower labellum buttery yellow. Labellum with papillae. Flowers fragrant with vanilla. Flowers protandrous. Very common.
