ASTERACEAE
Herbs to 5ft tall, locally common, ray petals white, disk
flowers yellow & becoming red-maroon. Growing in a
narrow strip of old-field habitat at the edge of a woodland in
loamy soil (Paxton very stony loam, 8-15% slopes; Coarse-
loamy, mixed, active, mesic Oxyaquic Dystrudepts).
Growing with Abies balsamea, Acer rubrum, Ambrosia
artemisiifolia, Betula alleghaniensis, Cirsium vulgare,
Comptonia peregrina, Daucus carota, Elymus repens,
Euthamia graminifolia, Erigeron strigosus, Fagus
grandifolia, Hypericum perforatum, Linaria canadensis, L.
vulgaris, Lupinus polyphyllus, Oenothera biennis, Panicum
capillare, Phalaris arundinacea, Pinus strobus, Plantago
major, Poa sp., Populus grandidentata, Quercus rubra, Rubu
alleganiensis (?), Rudbeckia triloba, Rumex acetosella, R.
altissimus, Setaria sp., Solidago canadensis, S. rugosa,
Symphyotrichum lanceolatum (= Aster lanceolatus), S.
lateriflorum (=A. lateriflorus), S. novae-angliae (= Aster
novae-angliae), Taraxacum officinale, Trifolium pratense,
Tsuga canadensis & Vida cracca. Near the NW comer of th
intersection of Quarry Road & Maine Street (Rt. 2), just N. o
Shaker Village. Poland Township, Androscoggin Co. Elev.
