Papua New Guinea. Gulf Province: N of Kikori.
An abandoned village site on the west side of the Kikori river
between Kikori and Kopi. Many tall old Artocarpus altilis and
seedlings present. 144° 15’ E, 7° 30’ S.
Sapling ~3m. Leaves, deeply lobed, velcro-like hairs below,
pubescent above, but not velcro-like. Fallen fruit conies from a
nearby tree. Fruit (8cm x 6cm), green, surface with flexible spiky
processes, with several immature seeds. Seven seedlings were
collected from this site and sent to the National Tropical Botanical
Garden in Hawaii for propagation. White latex throughout. Local
name Kapiak.
