Habitat: Broad ridge; moderately deep clayey soil -
sandy loams 0-6", clay loams to clay below 6", effective
rooting depth 10"; soil surface has vesicular crust,
hexagonal cracking; nearly flat to gently sloping, 0-10%;
SW aspect.
Substrate: Andesitic rock.
Associated Species: Artemisia arbuscula (some ARAR
x ARTRV). Purshia tridentata dominant; scattered
Cercocarpus ledifolius and Pinus jeffreyi, Sitanion
hystrix, Wyethia mollis, Poa sandbergii, Bromus
tectorum.
