Pico Guacamaya, ridge extending E from peak, S-facing slope. N10° 22’; W 67° 39’.
Above cloud forest. Not dense, canopy open, 6-12 m high with emergents to 20 m.
Few low herbs, Neurolepis pittieri common along ridge, tree ferns and palms
(Catoblastus prae-morsus) dominating the understorey, mosses and epiphytes
abundant. Poorly developed friable soil with peaty humic topsoil. 1745 m alt.
Collected on steep bank (almost vertical) in thick humus. Leaves pale, very long,
drooping down. Base of rosette flattened in one plane. Inflorescence ca. 70 cm long,
with strong-red bracts; corolla white.
