Fennimore, at jet. Hwy. 61 and Co. E.
42°54’06”N, 90°39’47”W. alt. 1142 ft.
Colony of ca. 100 plants on unshaded roadside, with
Melilotus alba, Pastinaca sativa, Bromus inermis, Daucus
carota, nearly flat ridgetop, the only plants of this species
(and genus) seen along Hwy. 61 between Soldiers Grove
(Crawford Co.) and Lancaster (Grant Co.).
Strictly erect, to 2.3 m. tall. Connate-perfoliate leaves with
water in the cup from rain a couple days previously.
Lowermost leaves on some plants only very shallow lobed;
sterile rosettes with merely crenate leaves and these not
prickly. Corolla white; anthers white.
