  • Habitat

    Associated species: Prosopis glandulosa, Quercus, Celtus, Cordia obtusifolia, Ehretia anacua, Yucca and Acacia. Sandy soil.

  • Description

    Palm, arborescent, trunk ca 50 cm dbh, 12-15 m tall. Crown is more or less spherical to somewhat oblong. Leaves 4 m long, petiole 2.4 m and splits at base, blade 1.6 m long and 1.5 m wide, leave bases are persistent for a while, on old trees, trunk is clean. Leaves are plicate. Leaves somewhat symmetrical with 36 segments on one half, each segment is ultimately divided about 3/8 of the tip. Inflorescence somewhat erect, branched, shorter than leaves, 1.3-1.5 m long. Population consisting of ca. 40 individuals, growing along a creek in an area frequently inundated by fresh water. Some individuals aparently very old and some juvenile, the largest population of this palm seen so far.
