PLANTS OF CALIFORNIA, USA Stvrax officinalis L. var. redivivus (Torr.) H.Howard Styracaceae Det.: S. R. Hill, (ILLS) 2001 Snowdrop bush. SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY 34¦ 12.36Æ N. Lat. 117¦ 16.83Æ W. Long. Waterman Canyon, San Bernardino National Forest, San Bernardino Mountains; vicinity of California Route 18 north of San Bernardino, east side of Old Waterman Canyon Road, north to northeast-facing slope. South of bridge over stream. Elevation about 2530 feet. Canyon, gneissic metamorphic rock, humus and sandy soil. Chaparral, shrubland on dry slopes, transition to mesic canyon forest. Dominants in chaparral: Eriogonum fasciculatum, Ceanothus spp., Phacelia spp., Lupinus spp., Eriodictyum trichocalyx. Dominants in mesic areas: Acer macrophyllum, Juglans califomica, Umbellularia, Alnus, Salix, Toxicodendron, Vitis. Occasional shrub 2-3 meters tall, flowers pendulous, showy, open-bell shape, white with orange anthers, pleasant aroma. Local on shaded banks below road with Steven R.
