Pvrola secunda L.
Roberts County: Bossko Township T127N R52W Section 31

Sica Hollow State Park is approximately 10 miles northwest of Sisseton. It is
owned by the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks. A
northeast-facing, moderate to steep slope occurs within a deciduous forest in a
coulee. The slope is dominated by Tilia americana. The park is on the Prairie
Coteau.
150+ ramets (most vegetative) occur on the middle to upper portion of the
slope. Saplings and shrubs are relatively scarce, so this portion of the slope is
relatively open under the trees. Pvrola secunda is associated with Carex sp.
This may be only the third collection of Pvrola secunda from the county.
DeAlton Saunders and J. R. Towne collected Pvrola secunda from “deep
coulees” in Roberts County in August 1897 (The Saunders and Towne
collection is in the herbarium at South Dakota State University. This collection
has fruits and no flowers).
