Mountain Rest, 9.5 miles northwest of Walhalla, private property adjoining West Village Creek and Sumter National Forest, Andrew Pickens District; northwest of Galloway Road. Southeast property comer. Whetstone 7.5’ quadrangle. Coordinate Datum: WGS84/NAD83. Elevation 1700 feet. Acidic clay-loam. Dry-mesic oak-hickory-pine forest, planted area, clearing alongside powerline. Petals white, stamens yellow; fruits green, globose, firm; leaves evergreen, firm, leathery, darker above than below, cultivated and escaped shrub 2.5 meters tall and wide; seedling originally from Jan Haldeman, Due West, SC.
