Silvicultural Characteristics* The tree was over-mature with numerous
dead "branches in the top* The trunk was apparently sound throughout
its length. It “branched into several smaller divisions at about 9
feét. The soil was rich, sandy loam on a stream "bank* The associated
species were Hyssa sylvatica, Magnolia grandiflora, Liqjiidambar
styraciflua, Pinus taeda, Tilia sp*, Salix sp# and Smilax sp. In an
área where a number of trees of this species were growing, the tree
cut was the largest to "be found. A number of the previous season1 s
leaves were present and still green at the time of cutting.
Place of Collection* 10 miles east of Jasper in Jasper County, Texas.
