Bronx, New York
Dear Dr. Small:
On receiving yours of March 2 I invest-
igated the Cyrilla arida. There are twelve living plants
and they appear to be doing well. These plants, originally
two dozen, were dug from the field a year ago and planted
in a mixture of muck and flatwoods sand in 6 inch pots. We
tried propagation by seed but they failed to germinate. The
plants, incidentally, have been kept in the slat-house since
they were brought in and potted.
Wish you would let me know when your next trip
to Florida is planned. Would like very much to have you call
I am enclosing a small piece of a plant and
would appreciate having you identify it for us. I realize
that this is only a scrap-but if you would care to have an
herbarium sheet of this particular plant I will prepare it
for you.
Very sincerely yours,
