ovary and stigmas yellow. Leaves
green or red-flecked above, deep
maroon below except for the reticu-
lum of veins. Roots lax and pithy,
rootstock a tuber 1-2 cm. long and
round or fusiform, mostly broken off
in collecting.

shallow, grass-choked, intermittent
pond c. 2-3 dm. deep. Plowers long-
exserted; petals pale blue to white;
sepals green with purplish flecks;
anthers yellow with white appendages;
