Upjohn-Penick Expedition, l9h9-$0 Vine climbing to ca, 7 m* in second growths of a small clearing in tall riverine rain forest near coast* Branches & branchlets dark-purplish, scabrid, with scattered pale lenticels mostly on underside« Leaves scabridulous above, less so below; apex recurred; margins slightly re curved; upper surface dark dull green, lowar pale yellowish-green; nerves raised at^bve, somewhat impressed below; veins obscure; i axillary glands reddish. Calyx lpbes spreading,! reddish-orange with green margins at apex; glands yellow. Corolla tube &. throat reddish- orange, throat thickly streaked ¿'with purple- brown within & without; lobes^ yellow-orange, mottled & streated with purple-brown; Tails pale orange-yellow, pendent, easily broken, ca, 19-22 cm. long. Glands of corolla dark purple brown. Of two 1-follicular fruits on vine, one had recently ripened and shed its seeds, and the other was unripened« Unripened follicle $0 cm. long x 1*6 cm. in greatest diameter, straight, tapered to terminal swellings at both ends, somewhat flattened laterally, deeply grooved below, obscurely’grooved above, purplish-brown, copigusly mottled and somewhat streakBd i with pale lentic^Is.
