On grassland a shrub sending up robust, curving branch- esto a height of ca* 2-3 m; in second growth forest a large scrambling shrub ascending to 5-6 ra. Semi-deciduous at least; now producing young leaves, and on grassland a few flowers. Only 1 fruit seen on numerous plants. Cymes sessile or on peduncles up to 5 mm long. Corolla purplish dark red without, deep purple within; tails red and (the overlapped edge) yellow below, yellow above. Anthers white. Corolla colors variable. 5 herbarium specimens 04191583
