first Andean foothills. Primary tropical evergreen
forest on slopes.

Tree 45 cm. in diameter, fallen but apparently
naturally leafless now; sap milky, with unpleasant
smell. Inflorescence pink-purple; corollas purple,
lightly fragrant (6:00 P.M. on partly cloudy day).
