Base of S-facing Wisconsin River valley bluff. Young
woods with Juniperus virginiana, Quercus macrocarpa,
Carya cordiformis, Prunus virginiana, with understory of
Zanthoxylum americanum and recent invasion of Lonicera
maackii.
Tree 15 m. tall, 22 cm. in diameter, 22 years old. Bark tight,
shallowly furrowed. Sapwood pale, consisting of 4-5
annual rings; heartwood brown. Voucher for wood
specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw, Penn
State. Staminate inflorescences hanging.
