feet high in moist sandy soil of woods along the beach;
wood soft, silvery white, odorless, distinctly swee^; hark
with latex, finely gray ancfc brown mottled, with scattered
blunt exoresoences; limbs long, widely spreading, the twigs
suberect; leaveB crowded toward the ends of the twigs,
coriaceous, shallowly folded upon the upper side; inflores~
cenoe erect; calyx segments and corolla tube greenish white,
the segments of the latter pure white and with rose red
bases, fruits when mature 3 inches long, Z inches across
the middle, ellipsoid, purplish red, shining and finely
mottled, light, the skin early separating; the great bulk
of the fruit is fibrous, carky and dull white, surrounding
a flattened seed or two. fhe whole fruit is from the time
it falls well adapted to floa
