HAWAI'I: North Kona, Keauhou Bay. Cultivated.
Tree, ca. 8 m. Leaves alternate, glossy, green above,
lighter green below. Inflorescences with decidious
keeled bracteoles, Plumeria-like.
Flowers very fragrant, sweet Gardenia-like smell. Calyx
spreading at anthesis, light green. Corolla white,
salverform, deciduous after anthesis and then turning
blackish brown; tube light green; lobes assymmetric,
perpendicular to tube. Corolla mouth closed with 5
holes, slightly yellow. Ovary suprior,
semi-apocarpous. Several brown colleters present at
base of leaves. Latex abundant, white.
