ORCHID ACEAE
Abundant herbs (thousands present), often in
small, dense clumps of plants, ranging from
miniscule plants with only one flower to much
more robust plants with many flowers. Plants
generally smaller in areas of short, sparse grass, &
larger in areas with taller, denser grass. Petals &
sepals white, labellum yellow apically, stems,
leaves & bracts often pale orange. Growing on a
moderately north-sloping edge of a roadside ditch
(even up to the very edge of the pavement!),
mowed many times per year, in moist, sandy soil
(Riviera fine sand; Loamy, siliceous, active,
hyperthermic Arenic Glossaqualfs). Along the N.
side of Rt. 60, about 3.65mi W. of the Interstate-
95 bridge, W. of Vero Beach. Indian River Co.
Elev. about 23ft. 27° 38' 23.9"N, 80° 34' 40.4"W;
UTM 17 541641E, 3057393N (NAD83/WGS84).
