Flat, dry chaco cactus scrub forest on sandy soil, with seasonally inundated slight depressions with clay soil ("curichis"). Aspidosperma spp., Caesalpinia paraguariensis, Capparis retusa, Castela coccinea. 17°49'S, 62°48'W. alt. 310 m. Small tree 4.5 m. tall, 15 cm. in diameter; bark smooth, gray.
