Mixed forest on brown sand, with Virola michelii, Emmotum sp., Goupia glabra, Enterolobium sp. (Devil's ear), Couratari guianensis, Chlorocardium rodiei. Tree 30 m tall, dbh 0.45 m. Base somewhat swollen. Bark dark yellow-brown, lenticellate. Lenticels coarse, round to elongate, 0.3-2 x 0.3-0.7 cm, both vertical and horizontal, sometimes few connected. Dead bark 1 mm thick, dark orange-brown. Living bark 10 mm thick, layered, orange-brown layers alternating with light brown / orange-brown mottled layers, hard, brittle, innermost layer light brown. Slash sweet-scented, without exudate, pink after 1/2 hour. Twigs dull grey-green, with red to orange sap. Leaves stiff, shiny dark green above, lighter below.
