    Perennial herb, stems erect, to 1.2 m tall, internodes pinkish, nodes red basally green distally, Ivs bright green. Infl. whitish-cream. Plant with pungent odor like wintergreen. From Basil Hansen in N Kona, Hawaii Is. (as Piper sanctum).
